Refuse

For your convenience, we offer weekly curbside residential refuse collection through our contract with Republic Services. In addition, Republic Services collects appliances and bulky items based on a pay-to-throw sticker program. For additional information, please view the Rules for Refuse Collection / Resource Recovery Service.

Other City programs include:

  • Christmas tree chipping
  • Fall leaf collection
  • Monthly curbside bulk brush pick-up from April through October

Christmas Tree Chipping

We will pick up, chip and recycle Christmas trees during the 1st 2 full weeks of January. Trees must be placed at the curb (not in the street) without bags or wrapping.

Refuse Pick-up

We are pleased to offer our residents a choice in how they prepare their refuse for pick-up: roll-out refuse carts or bag service. Please keep in mind that the roll-out carts have a neater appearance at the curb and prevent most animals from scavenging in your garbage.

During the first 2 weeks of January and the first 2 weeks of July each year, the property owner of the collection address may elect to change service from a roll-out cart to mixed-refuse bags or vice-versa by notifying the City Offices. Changes are only allowed during this 2-week period.

Weed Violations

Our year-round weed ordinance states that weeds and grass cannot be higher than 9 inches. On or before March one of each year, we will:

  • Prepare outline of weed map
  • Run weed violation notice in newspaper of general circulation in community

In the event of violation, we will mail a 5-day notice letter to the violator. If the violation is not addressed, the Public Works department will mow. For a 1st offense, it will be turned over to the Police department and charged a civil fine. Residents will be invoiced the actual cost of clean-up plus 100%. If not paid, these costs will become a lien against the premises and will be added as a special assessment to your property taxes.

Yard Waste

Yard waste may be deposited at the Public Works yard drop off site, located at 805 W. Oak Street, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Yard wastes include miscellaneous waste material resulting from landscaping or maintaining the landscaping of a home (grass, weeds, houseplants, garden wastes, etc.).

From mid-October to mid-November, residents may rake their fall leaf drop into the street for bulk pick-up by the City as noted in the Leaf Collection section.

No yard waste may be placed in a 65 or 95-gallon refuse cart.

BRUSH

We will remove brush without charge the 1st Monday of each month from April through October. Limbs must be no more than 3 inches in diameter, and brush must be stacked with the cut end at curbside. Residents throughout the City must have their brush placed curbside by 7 a.m. Brush is not to be placed curbside any earlier than the Friday before the appointed Monday.
