City's Welcome
Hello and welcome to the City of Fremont’s website. The site has been redesigned to provide high quality customer service to Fremont citizens and members of the business community, as well as deliver general information to those curious about our town. The website is one of the many tools we use to detail the services, programs and activities offered by the City. It is our opportunity to showcase the Fremont area, while providing useful and timely information to our many customers, many of whom may not have yet visited Fremont.
The City of Fremont is a steadily growing community, and now a part of the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland Metropolitan Area, the fastest growing region in Michigan. Newaygo County’s robust 25% population growth from 1990 to 2000 was 3.5 times the State rate of 6.9% and ranked it as the State’s 11th fastest growing county. The City Fremont (9.0%) grew at a rate higher than the State, but much more moderate than the County. Fremont’s growth history has been steady and manageable. Since 1970, the City has grown 22%, from a population of 3,465 to 4,224. The City’s 1% per year growth is viewed as sustainable.
While little or no growth, or even population loss is usually not desirable, too-swift growth brings many challenges, too. These often include increases in school students, traffic, crime, housing shortages, utility demands and more. In order to accommodate Fremont's historic growth, community leaders are creating a future vision for the area. In 2001, the City and adjacent Townships of Dayton and Sheridan completed the preparation of the Joint Fremont Area Community Development & Growth Management Plan. The overall goal of the Joint Plan is to both maintain our current and enhance our future quality of life in this community.
We pride ourselves on maintaining a pleasant, comfortable and visually stimulating place in which to live, work, play and visit. With the leadership of the Fremont City Council, the expertise & innovation of our professional staff, the guidance of our many board & commission members and the help and contributions of our many volunteers, Fremont offers many high-quality local services at very reasonable rates. Most newcomers are amazed at the range of services, programs, facilities and amenities available in our community. We often take them for granted, and fail to realize that most towns our size are not as blessed.
Thank you for visiting Fremont’s new website. We promise to provide you with the information you need and will strive to keep our site current, accurate and easy to access. We look forward to serving you on a day-to-day basis and well into the future. Feel free to drop me an email, call, letter or fax at the contact numbers below. With your help, we can live up to our City Motto:
“NOW AND ALWAYS - A Fine City A Great Community”
