Refuse
For your convenience, we offer weekly curbside
residential refuse collection through our contract
with Allied Waste Services. In addition, Allied Waste collects
appliances, bulky items and yard
wastes based on a pay-to-throw sticker program.
Other
City
programs include:
- Christmas tree chipping
- Fall leaf collection
- Monthly
curbside bulk brush pick-up from spring through
fall
All of the brush, chips and leaves are composted at
the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The resulting compost is mixed with topsoil and used
by the City for parks and parkway repair and construction
projects.
Rules for Refuse Collection/Resource Recovery Service
Christmas Tree Chipping
We will pick up, chip and recycle
Christmas trees during the first two full weeks of
January. Trees must be
placed at the curb (not in the street) without
bags or wrapping. (Please insert picture of Christmas
tree).
Refuse Pick-up
We are pleased to offer our residents
a choice in how they prepare their refuse for pick-up:
rollout refuse
carts or bag service. Please keep in mind that
the rollout carts have a neater appearance at the curb
and prevent most animals from scavenging in your
garbage. Changing your service from one method to the other
can only be done once per year; you must request the
change by January 15th. The change will be effective
indefinitely if you do not request any change thereafter.
Weed Violations
Our year-round weed ordinance states
that weeds and grass cannot be higher than nine inches.
On or before
March 1 of each year, we will:
- Prepare
outline of weed map
- Run weed violation notice
in newspaper of general circulation in community
In the event of violation, we will mail a five-day
notice letter to the violator. If the violation is
not addressed, the Public Works department will mow.
For a first offense, it will be turned over to the
Police department and charged a civil fine. Residents
will be invoiced the actual cost of clean-up plus 100%.
If not paid, these costs will become a lien against
the premises and will be added as a special assessment
to your property taxes.
Yard Waste
Yard waste may be deposited at the Public
Works yard drop off site, located at 805 W. Oak Street,
Monday
through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Yard
wastes include miscellaneous waste material resulting
from
landscaping or maintaining the landscaping of a
home (grass, weeds, houseplants, garden wastes, etc.).
From April 1st to November 15th, yard waste may
also
be placed in a specially marked yard waste bag
on your regular refuse pick-up day. From mid-October
to mid-November, residents may rake their fall
leaf
drop into the street for bulk pick-up by the City
as noted in the Leaf Collection section. No yard
waste may be placed in a 65-gallon refuse cart.
Brush
We will remove brush without charge the first
Monday of each month from April through October.
Limbs must
be no more than 3" in diameter, and brush must
be stacked with the cut end at curbside. Residents
throughout the City must have their brush placed
curbside by 7:00 a.m. Brush is not to placed curbside
any earlier than the Friday before the appointed
Monday.
