SECOND PHASE OF “TOWN & COUNTRY PATH”

TO BE CONSTRUCTED THIS SUMMER

Phase 1a of the new Town & Country Path was completed during the fall of ’04.  Phase 1a totals 1.75 miles and has two sections: one connecting Branstrom Park with Daisybrook and Pathfinder Elementary Schools and the other connecting the new Skate Park with Fremont Lake Park.  The cost for the first phase was approximately $250,000.  The photo at right shows the Path as it winds through the former Davis Family property north of Fremont Lake Park (FLP).  Below left is a photo of the bridge designed & constructed by the City’s DPW crew that crosses Darling Creek in FLP.

The proposed route for Phase 1b of the Path will begin at Lake Drive (connecting to the southern part of existing Phase 1a) and head westward toward Locust Street.  It will travel along Locust through the Fremont Industrial Park until it reaches the Maat Drain crossing, where it will turn north through the beautiful wooded area along the east side of the creek.  At that point, the Path will extend to the traffic signal on Main Street at either Industrial Drive or Market Avenue.  The City Council and the Township Boards for both Dayton & Sheridan have endorsed the proposed route.

The Fremont Area Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee & its Town & Country Path Committee continue to raise funds for future Path phases.  The City greatly appreciates the funds already donated by local individuals, businesses and organizations, which to-date total over $60,000.  The MI Dept. of Natural Resources (MDNR) awarded $130,560 to help fund Phase 1b of the Path.  Also, the Fremont Area Community Foundation recently awarded an additional $50,000 grant, with a 50% matching opportunity for an additional $25,000.  Tax-deductible donations can be submitted to the “Town & Country Path Fund,” c/o the Fremont Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box B, Fremont, MI 49412.

Please feel free to attend a Park & Recreation Advisory Committee meeting if you have other recreation ideas, would like to propose a project or would like to show your support.  Also check out the Path section of the City’s new website at http://www.cityoffremont.net/web/community_newTrail.htm for additional info.  If you have questions regarding the Path or upcoming Committee meetings, contact City Clerk Todd Blake at City Hall @ 924-2101 or at tblake@cityoffremont.net.
